As early as four or five years ago, the British rail transport department had planned to acquire a fleet of 48 passenger diesel locomotives and discussed the technical performance and design of such locomotives with some domestic and foreign locomotive manufacturers (see United Kingdom “Railway Gazette International” 1985, № 4, P284-translator), but due to various reasons, the plan was delayed and was not re-introduced until recently.
