民国三十八年(1949)五月,中国人民解放军解放浙江省会杭州,国民党浙江省政府迁至舟山群岛。6月19日,椒北解放,21日以后王云沛率残部退至大陈。7月,国民党浙江省政府任命王云沛为“浙南行署”主任,叶苕中为副主任,以大陈岛为据点,岛上人口激增至3万之众。1954年5月6日,蒋介石由蒋经国、俞大维等陪同,乘“峨嵋号”巡洋舰视察“台湾北大门”大陈岛。蒋介石说:“一江山岛是‘北大门’的门闩,守卫大陈,必先强固一江山岛;保卫台湾,必先强固大陈岛。”可见大陈岛之重要。直至1955年1月18日,中国人民解放军首次陆海空三军联合作战,一举解放大陈岛外围岛屿一江山岛,全歼岛上守军。

To defend Taiwan, we must first strengthen Dachen Island.” Until January 18, 1955, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) first joint operation of the armed forces of the navy, sea and air forces liberated the island of Dachen Island, a peripheral island of Dachen Island, and completely wiped out island defenders.
