The inner ear has a host defense system function. This system involves lymphocytes and macrophages located in the vascular perivascular connective tissue and the endolymphatic cavity. Other host defense components include endo-lymphatic immunoglobulins (mainly IgG). It has been observed that the perilymph antibody content is greater than cerebrospinal fluid, suggesting that the inner ear can selectively concentrate antibodies or produce antibodies.
