Objective: To investigate the relationship between the expression of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in salivary gland tumors and the malignant degree of salivary gland tumors. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of STAT3 and VEGF in 49 salivary gland tumors and 16 normal salivary glands. Results: The expression of STAT3 and VEGF in malignant tumors was significantly higher than that in benign tumors in salivary gland tumors (p <0.05), and was higher in benign salivary gland tumors than in normal salivary gland tissues There was also a significant difference between the two expression levels (p <0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between the expression of STAT3 and VEGF (p <0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The expression of STAT3 and VEGF is closely related to the malignant degree of salivary gland tumor, and the synergistic effect between them may play an important role in the carcinogenesis and development of salivary gland tumor. The correlation between the two supports the view that VEGF gene is regulated by STAT3 protein, and inhibiting STAT3 protein pathway may be a new way to treat salivary gland tumor.
