Since the country liberalized food operations and prices in 1985, many state-owned food companies have fallen into a dilemma of shrinking operations and serious losses. The Zhijiang County Food Company in Hubei Province began implementing the “one contract, four release” approach from 1988, facing the market, switching mechanisms, and embarked on a business road suited to its own characteristics. For four consecutive years, the contract indicators have been fully exceeded and the economic benefits have steadily improved. In the past four years, 290,000 live pigs and 2.51 million kilograms of fresh eggs were sold. The total sales amounted to 87.85 million yuan, profits and taxes were 3.02 million yuan, and the country’s fiscal revenue was 2.28 million yuan.
