荆生彦先生精通秦腔、汉调二簧、道情及吹鼓乐,各种乐器及唱腔样样熟谙;并且通晓和拿握这些剧种的板式、板路、板眼以及各个行当的基本唱腔。因而他在音乐设计方面,才华横溢,颇有独到之处。如他先后参加设计的秦腔传统戏《游西湖》、《白蛇传》、《窦娥冤》、《赵氏孤儿》以及拍摄成戏曲影片的《火焰驹》等音乐唱腔,不但挖掘和创造性的使用了许多秦腔老曲牌,并决断地摒弃了老调唱腔中累赘和缺乏典雅的虚用字,采用音韵或衬字托腔,同时,大胆地吸收了民间音乐、吹鼓音乐和昆曲等曲牌,丰富了秦腔声乐艺术,使秦腔音乐唱腔更加幽婉动听。
