谷子是一种强自花授粉作物之一,想利用人工杂交法获得大量的杂交优种是比较困难的,在大田生产上无法利用。但是,从杂交高粱和杂交玉米的利用经验来看,选育谷子雄性不育系,利用杂交优势,是谷子种子革命,提高谷子产量的一条新途径。获得谷子雄性不育株是选育谷子不育系的重要基础工作。但怎样寻找和识別谷子的雄性不育株呢?根根各地研究經验和田间实践表明,雄性不育株和正常植株的特征有一定差异。这些差异,可用肉眼直接观察鉴别出雄性不育株。其特点如下表:
