Abstract Objective To study the shortest distance between the location of pulmonary microwave ablation in the vicinity of the heart without causing cardiac tissue damage or obvious arrhythmia. Materials and Methods The study was approved by the Institution Animal Protection and Use Committee. Guided by CT fluoroscopy, 12 pigs were subjected to microwave ablation. Antenna orientation and location were randomly assigned to be relatively parallel (180 ° ± 20 °) or vertical (90 ° ± 20 °) to the heart surface and 0 to 10 mm from the heart. Ablation was performed for 5 min at 65 W or until significant arrhythmia (asystole, heart block, bradycardia, supraventricular or ventricular tachycardia) occurred.
