Recently, literary style has been discussed. Many people advocate writing less sentences and writing short sentences. I remembered two former teachers. One who teaches higher Chinese, he often draws a red bar beside the short sentence in the student’s composition. The student asked him what he meant. He said: “When you are a high school student, how can you always write such a short sentence like a child? Can’t write a sentence longer?” “Another mathematics teacher, on the contrary, Advocate speaking to be concise. He asked: ”How many pounds is a pound for three pounds and two pounds?“ The student replied: ”Five pounds.“ He said: ”No. It should answer ’Five.’ I asked a few pounds, you said’ Five’, of course, five pounds, not fifty-two. One word to say it clearly, do not use two."
