The Hutti-Maski greenstone belt of Karnataka State controls Hutti Gold Mine and is India’s second largest gold production center. The Late Archean greenstone belt of the South Indian Shield is mainly composed of pillow-shaped basalt, sub-volcanic intrusive mats and a small amount of long-grade volcanic rocks and metamorphic sedimentary rocks. Gold mineralization is controlled by these lithologies. A small amount of near-industrial grade jet and industrial grade gold mineralization were identified. The four stages of gold enrichment during the tectonic evolution of the Greenstone Belt are envisaged. Identifying these patterns of mineralization is instrumental in further exploration of high-potential Hutti-Maski greenstone gold deposits.
