函授教育的特点是业余、分散、自学为主。自学是函授教育的基础,也是函授教学的主要环节,从某种意义上说,自学是函授教育的生命线,没有自学就谈不上函授教育。当然,必要的面授辅导也是需要的。实践经验证明,适当的面授辅导,有助于扫清自学的障碍,对提高函授教学质量起了促进和保证作用。尤其是近几年来,在函授教材和辅导资料建设比较薄弱和一部分函授学员的知识基础以及自学能力较差的情况下,进行适当的面授辅导,就显得更为必要了。所以,教育部在高等师范函授教学计划(试行草案)中规定,专科函授学制三年,各专业总教
