According to a report by Nature Weekly, the first Minister for Education and Research (BMBF) in Germany, Zhugen Rügtger, recently delivered his first speech to the press about his policy on German research. He emphasized that basic research can expect continuous support from the federal government. In particular, he expressed his support for a five-year fiscal agreement (1996-2000) with the MPG and the German Research Federation (DFG). The Maple Institute is a specialized institute for basic research, and the German Institute for Research is the institution that provides funding for basic research programs, primarily basic research at universities.
