Jesus’ action of “sanctifying the temple” is neither an objection to the temple nor a mere blockage of the tax on the temple. Jesus’ sanctuary action was to protest that Caiaphas brought commercial activities to the temple, because he considered it contrary to the purpose of the sacrificial offering. He believes that Israelis and their sacrifices are clean, and Israel’s sacrificers should sacrifice their own things instead of buying things in the temple, and they insist on the principle of separation between man and sacrifice. The sanctuary of Jesus and his followers led to his death by disrupting the normal worship of the Temple. The priesthood’s direct action on Jesus was due to the establishment of a communal system whereby the subsequent sacrament replaced the sacrificial offerings of the temple. In this sense Jesus is a revolutionary rabbi.
