I. Project Overview Located on the campus of UBC University in Columbia, Canada, this project is a student residence building which will provide accommodation for 404 students. The building serves as a government-led demonstration project to demonstrate that mixed-use, heavy-duty timber-framed buildings meet the needs of the construction industry technically and economically. An exhaustive cost analysis will be undertaken as the project progresses to compare the cost of high-rise timber and steel structures and concrete structures. With current state-of-the-art engineering timber and construction technology, high-rise timber structures not only make for a safer economy but also create a much lower
