In order to provide a scientific basis for soil and water conservation work in China, since 1986, the Remote Sensing Center of Songliao Water Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources has investigated the status quo of soil erosion in Tibet using remote sensing technology to solve the problems that conventional methods can not solve. The survey used qualitative and quantitative analysis of glaciers, permafrost, ice margin, erosion, water erosion, wind erosion and so on by using the remote sensing technology.
