索尔·贝娄被称为“当代美国文坛上继福克纳和海明威之后最重要的小说家和二战后最值得称颂的犹太作家”。他一生中创作佳作无数,但大多数研究者都是侧重于研究贝娄小说中的男性形象,研究女性形象的学者相对较少,且多是侧重于对某一部作品中单一的女性形象的研究。本文将贝娄作品中具有代表性的女性人物分为三类来进行阐述,以求更深入地理解贝娄的作品的同时,得出贝娄其实是借助女性形象来构建理想的社会道德的结论。
Saul Bellow is described as “the most important novelist in the contemporary American literary arena after Faulkner and Hemingway and the most glorious Jewish writer after World War II.” Most of his works focus on the study of male images in Bellow’s novels. There are relatively few scholars who study female images, and most of them focus on the analysis of a single female image in a certain work the study. This article divides the representative female characters in Bellow’s works into three categories to elaborate. In order to understand Bellow’s works in depth, Bellow concludes that Bellow constructed the ideal social morality by means of female images .
