Spring Festival is the most important, grandest and the most distinctive traditional festival of China. According to data, the history of Spring Festival is as long as 4000 years. Therefore it is not only a festival, but also the carrier for Chinese people to release their feelings, and satisfy their inner desire, as well as an annual carnival and a spiritual support forever. Thus, it is the focus of society as for how to have a pleasant and safe Spring Festival.
The safety of transportation is the most important thing during the long way back home
Spring Festival is the festival when the Chinese families enjoy reunion. People try their best to return home to get together with their family on New Year’ Eve, and express their expectations for the next year and their best wishes for the life of the new year. Therefore, the Chinese characterized transportation period called "Spring Festival travel rush" comes into being.
In the late 1980s, numerous workers went working outside, and Spring Festival travel rush became the focus of society. Within about 40 days, a population of about 2 billion, which takes up about one third of the population of the world will migrate. Therefore, "Spring Festival travel rush" is considered as the human migration of the largest scale in human history. However, the way back home is filled with homesickness which haunts people. The lyrics "cannot afford the money to celebrate the New Year at home" sing out the voice of many people and it shows the irreplaceable position of Spring Festival in the minds of Chinese people.
However, along with the thousands of miles, or even ten thousand miles way back is the safety problem.
Dating back to the travel of Spring Festival in the past years, "the returning army of motorcycles" is the unforgettable scenery. In the Spring Festival travel rush of 2014, the number of people who took motorcycle to return home reached 600000. In the Spring Festival travel rush of 2015, although with the opening of Guiyang-Guangzhou High-speed Railway and Nanning-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, the number of the returning army of motorcycles decreased, many people still chose to go on by motorcycle. Due to the weather and the characteristics of motorcycles, the news of accidents of the returning army of motorcycles can often be heard.
On February 4, 2015, the first day of Spring Festival travel rush, the father handcuffed his daughter who had amblyopia to him with handcuffs in Beijing Nan Railway Station, being afraid that she would be trafficked. At the same time he let her wear the watch with GPS for children and the necklace with his telephone number, returning fully armed. The father said, "I can only feel safe when I am fastened with my daughter." In addition to the safety of people, the safety of belongings should also be minded.
In the noon of February 12, 2015, the staff member of security check found a black bag with more than a thousand RMB, iPhone, iPad, ID card, passport and so on. The owner Mrs Sun said that she did not reserve enough time and rushed for the train in a hurry, and that was why she lost her stuff. Besides, on February 6, the staff member of Beijing Xi Railway Station found a black satchel for men, with 50000 RMB, a driving license and some other things inside, later the owner Mr. Tian went back to the security check to look for it. According to Mr. Tian, he hurried to catch a train with lots of luggage and a child, being careless, he left the satchel in the security check machine.
According to the police notification of Beijing Railway Bureau, by the ninth day of Spring Festival travel rush, i.e., February 12, 2015, the policemen and staff members of security check of all the railway stations in Beijing had found 64 lost items and 131765 RMB for the passengers, most of who lost their belongings due to rushing to the railway station in a short time before the train left.
It is the wish of every person how works outside to spend the Spring Festival at home, and nothing can stop their pace back home, even rain or snow. However, safety should not be forgotten in the hurried and quick paces.
To avoid “the waste on the tip of tongue” while having feasts
What to eat in Spring Festival? Well goes the folk song:" To have Tanggua (a sticky malt sugar candy) on 23th, sweep the house on 24th, mill the grain on 25th, buy the meat on 26th, butcher the chicken on 27th, leaven the dough on 28th, steam buns on 29th...", most of it is about food. In the old times there was a shortage of food and people were difficult to make themselves full, so they prepared lots of food for the Spring Festival. However the standards of eating nowadays are different, and the waste of food is astounding. According to the report of media, the 2600 restaurants in the downtown of Lanzhou, Gansu alone have more than 200 tons swill every day, not to mention it is in the west part of China, which is not so rich. The repeated waste has made the topic unpleasant.
Right after the Spring Festival, the reporter saw some buns, sesame cakes, duck, chicken and sausage which seemed to be good in the rubbish dump in a community in Beijing. The phenomenon of food wasting makes people shocked. Actually, not only crops, but also some traditional food for festival sees the serious waste. In Spring Festival, guests who come to visit should "taste something sweet", which indicates that the new year will be sweet. Therefore candies and preserves are the necessary food at home in Spring Festival. "In recent years, we buy fewer and fewer candies, and only choose some delicious and good-looking candies. It is already a saving, but still many candies will be left. When guests come, they often choose some preserves which are salty or with light taste. Even more people say ‘sweet’ is not needed, since having too much sweet may cause inflammation. Only children like to have New Year candies, but parents will limit the quantity." said Mrs Li, a citizen in the interview given by the reporter.
This Spring Festival, Mrs Li bought less than 250 grams of chocolate, peppermint candies and toffee, filling a candy box. However, by the eighth day of the new year, the weight of the candy box had not changed much. New Year candy seems to be more an ornament to create the atmosphere for the Spring Festival than a kind of food to eat. After the 15th in the lunar calendar, most families will put the candy box away, and the fate of most of the candies is to be forgotten. Even though they are thought of sometimes, their taste may has changed due to humid or hot weather and they will be thrown away at last.
Zhang Yongchun, Researcher of Xian Academy of Social Science said in the interview of the media, "We should establish a new concept—to waste food is to waste life! We should not only know ‘Human life is more important than anything else’, but also know that ‘crops are of great importance to human life’". The importance of crops is self-evident, and wasting crops, meat and vegetables is wasting life.
Researcher Zhang Yongchun pointed out after analyzing that, "Food is the first necessity of the people" is an iron discipline, and people’ livelihood. We should not forget the days when we have wild herbs instead of crops, and the alarm of food safety should be ringing all the time! Meanwhile, we are supposed to change the pattern of consumption of both the family and individuals. In Spring Festival, we should not prepare or order lots of main courses and meat dishes as the traditional way of consumption, but should adopt the economical way of consumption that lasts long and benefits people in their health and respect the lives of others and ourselves! We should sing out with our action, "Farmers weeding at noon, sweat down the field soon. Who knows food on a tray, thanks to their toiling day!" Impossible to welcome the New Year and say goodbye to the old one without firecrackers?
There is a folk practice of "firecrackers at door", which means that when the new year comes, every family sets off firecrackers as the first thing after they open their door. The crackles of the fire crackers are used to welcome the new year and say goodbye to the old one. Its origin can be dated back to 2000 years ago. Setting off firecrackers can create the joyful festival atmosphere, and acts as an entertainment, which brings joy and auspicious omen to people.
However, in the past few years, the debate of "whether to set off firecrackers or not" has never stopped on the Internet. This year is not an exception. The debate started before the Spring Festival and lasted till it ended—at first people called on reducing the working pressure of city sanitation workers, and it returned to the old problem: air pollution.
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, on the New Year’s Eve, 160 out of 338 cities are seriously polluted, among whom Beijing and some other provinces and cities suffered from serious pollution continuously. A relevant Person-In-Charge said that affected by the concentrated setting off firecrackers, the density of PM 2.5 of the New Year’s Eve rose from 18.00 to 23.00 gradually.
It can be seen that setting off firecrackers does have great effect; however, since it is traditional custom, will people get used to the Spring Festival without the sound of firecrackers? In regard to "Are you for the forbidding of fireworks in Spring Festival", Sina launched a survey. Among the 3000 netizens who participated in the vote, 60.1% agreed to forbid fireworks, and 38.1% were against; the remaining 1.8% were indifferent to it. Netizens in Beijing take up 12% of the total number of people who voted.
It is the tradition to set off fireworks to celebrate festivals, which is also considered as one of the factors that can show the "atmosphere of Spring Festival". Complete prohibition of fireworks may go against the opinion of the public, and certainly it is difficult to get the complete recognition and support of citizens. Moreover, the punishment after a comprehensive ban is a problem. Unless there is a large-scale firework show, generally people only set off fireworks for a few minutes. Not to mention that no one will go to report it, even if the policeman gets to know it, when he rushes to the spot, he may only see the debris of fireworks rather than the person to be fined, which is very unpractical. Many city transfer the comprehensive to a limited ban, not only because of public opposition, but also due to the difficulty of punishment. In that a comprehensive ban is not feasible, the promotion should be strengthen to prevent the harm of fireworks and firecrackers to the environment, and let the public know the harm that setting off fireworks on a large scale and for a long period during the Spring Festival will do to their health and make them reduce fireworks spontaneously.
According to the report of Beijing Times, on February 23, 2015, which was the last day for selling the fireworks of the Year of Goat, 170000 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers had been sold in Beijing totally, 110000 boxes fewer than that of last year, with a decrease of 41%. When it came to the reason of the decrease of sales of fireworks and firecrackers, Pan Di, General Manager of Panda Fireworks of Beijing said, recent years, with the awareness of environmental protection improving, citizens responded to the call of municipal committee and municipal government, set off fewer fireworks and firecrackers or did not set off them at all. Therefore the sales decreased. It is obvious that the awareness of environmental protection is improved year by year.
To reduce the emission of PM2.5 is not only the responsibility of the government, but that of everyone. Setting off fewer fireworks and firecrackers or driving less will contribute to the reduce of air pollution and decrease of density of PM2.5.
Have you grabbed the electronic red envelope?
The Spring Festival holiday is long, and there is not only much time, but also many activities for entertainment. Especially at this time people are very easy to relax, so during the Spring Festival, the safety of "playing" is very important.
One of the most popular traditional customs in every Spring Festival is to offer red envelopes. Today, "electronic red envelope", which is based on networks is becoming a new fashion in some fashionable families. It is said that the "electronic red envelope" is given by the platform of a third party through networks. Alipay sets up a function of "offering a cash gift" on the home page specially. A user only needs to enter the recipient’s account and the amount of money of the red envelope, submit and input the payment password, then the red envelope will be sent immediately. "Electronic red envelop" has variety of styles. The users can not only upload personalized blessing pictures, but also write individualized blessing sentences. Compared with the traditional "red envelope of paper and cash", "electronic red envelope" is more vivacious and modern. On February 25th, Tencent released some data of the number of giving and receiving red envelopes through WeChat and QQ during the Spring Festival. From the eve of the lunar new year to the fifth day of the lunar month (i.e., from February 18th to February 23rd), the number of giving and receiving red envelopes through QQ was 1.16 billion times, and on New Year’s Day, users on the two platforms gave and received red envelopes for 1.6 billion RMB. These are the statistics of Tencent only, the platform of Ali’s micro-blog red envelope was also extremely active during the Spring Festival, bringing different modes of sending the wishes of the Spring Festival for mobile Internet users.
However, there was still some disharmonious sound, especially the fraud such as "AA red envelope, enter the password". On March 5th, Woo Yun micro-blog platform of loophole released the latest information of loophole, showing that the red envelope of WeChat have high-risk loophole, and through simple modifications, people can act beyond their authorities and grab the other users’ red envelopes, getting hundreds of RMB in a minute. Although white hat hackers did not release the technique, 360 mobile security experts said, it is likely that some APP for grabbing red envelopes through the loophole will appear on the Internet, and it is very likely to hide trojan. Therefore many people were cheated by cheaters through AA red envelope and downloaded APPs such as Great Tool to Grab Red Envelopes, and the highest loss was up to 10000 RMB. The expert said, sending red envelope or transferring red envelope to cash must be bound to bank cards, and while grabbing red envelopes happily, we must be alert and make anti-trojan safety measures in our cellphone.
According to Woo Yun platform of loophole, the white hat hacker called "only-guest" found the high-risk loophole of WeChat Red Envelope, due to the defects of the program design of client-terminal, hackers can bypass the authority, and design the program freely to get red envelope. The white hat hacker screenshot to show that he/she received 200 RMB of red envelopes in one minute and kidded while describing the loophole that, "It is no longer a dream to be rich, go straight towards well-off, and take in millions of RMB daily. If it is written into procedures, one million every day is not a problem!" Although the white hat hacker did not make profit through it, many people on the Internet "begged" him/her for the procedures, which caused the vigilance of the security experts. We need to be careful to prevent someone from taking the opportunity to spread trojans. The truth is that although red envelope is very popular, not all the "red envelopes" can be taken. During the Spring Festival, a link of "red envelope" jumped out from a group in the mobile phone of Ms. Li, a lady in Shangdong. She entered quickly, the program said just a click can earn 98 RMB and reminded Ms. Li to forward link to her friends to send the 98 RMB of "red envelope". However, after entering personal information such as mobile phone number, she found that it is a "red envelope" pretended by AA Collection, and it was her who sent the 98 RMB. Mr. Wang in Fujian was also involved in getting red envelopes. He clicked on the link of APP to get red envelope sent by others, downloaded it and input the payment password of relevant account and found 3000 RMB was taken away from his on-line bank account.
In addition, there are trojans which specifically pretend to be "red envelope", stealing the bank card number and other information of mobile phone users, or even get the new messages that get to the mobile phone and control the mobile phone to send messages outward by itself. 360 mobile phone safety experts remind that, at present some ill-intentioned people use the loopholes of red envelope to cheat, they implant backdoor programs in the red envelope plugins to steal card number and password of online bank, which will eventually help hackers to get red envelopes or even steal the money of their own account.
