Previous studies have shown that smokers than non-smoker blood levels of cadmium 2 to 5 times higher, but the smoking of cadmium in breast milk has not been reported. This article examines the cadmium levels in the milk and blood of smokers and compares the amount of cadmium exposure of smokers and non-smokers with breast-fed and formula-fed infants. The subjects included 15 non-smokers and 56 smokers healthy women between the ages of 17 and 40 with different social backgrounds and no known occupational and environmental exposure.
