Objective To understand the risk cognition and coping behavior of surgical staff in surgical site infection and provide basis for establishing infection prevention and control strategy. Methods A total of 744 surgical staff members from 12 hospitals in 12 hospitals in Shandong, Hubei and Xinjiang were investigated for the risk perception and response to surgical site infection by using self-designed questionnaire about the risk of surgical site infection. Results The average awareness rate of surgical site infection was 39.65%. The risk pressure experienced by doctors and nurses when infected with surgical site was 3.95 and 3.18 respectively, according to the Likert Scale of 5 points. Control of site infection score of 4 points or more. Conclusion Reasonable guidance to medical staff to control the infection of the surgical site may start from the structure that affects the risk cognition of the medical staff. To improve the familiarity and controllability of the surgical site may lead them to take more active coping actions.
