In this paper, the DNA content of cancer cell nuclei from 39 different surgically resected human lung cancer specimens was measured with a microspectrophotometer. Among them, high, moderate, and poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinomas were 3, 6, and 5, respectively; high, moderate, and poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas were 3, 5, and 5, respectively; and undifferentiated carcinomas were 3 and 5, respectively. Cases and 6 cases. The results showed that the DNA content of all types of lung cancer were statistically different (P<0.01). The peak location and distribution range of each DNA content histogram are also different. This suggests that depending on the DNA content, it may contribute to the identification of the histological type and differentiation of lung cancer: DNA content histograms may also be useful for the discrimination of lung cancer types.
