Background Many epilepsy patients have not been adequately controlled by antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and are not suitable for brain surgery. In search of alternative therapies, the idea of electrically stimulating deep brain structures to treat refractory epilepsy has received renewed attention. Anterior nucleus of the thalamus (ANT) plays an important role in the maintenance and transmission of seizures and is a promising target for deep brain stimulation (DBS)
