“If you open an international conference in a city, it’s like having an airplane flying over the city.” One of the world’s exhibition industry giants commented on the huge benefits of the exhibition economy. Meetings and exhibitions can both attract people’s popularity and drive related industries. It has been estimated that the direct revenue of the convention and exhibition industry in China exceeded RMB 6 billion in 2002, and the tourism, catering, transportation, advertising, entertainment, and real estate industries that are indirectly driven by it have a revenue of several hundred billion yuan. As a new economic phenomenon and a new growth point of economic development, the exhibition economy has been included in many major cities in China as a key development industry and is increasingly moving toward internationalization, specialization, scale, and branding.
