图案,从它问世的那一天起,就决定它是一种美化工艺品的特殊艺术形式。包罗万象的图案题材,虽然也表现人们的各种思想意识(内容),但并非一定要有具体的内容,即不能也无法排除以纯审美为目的的图案设计。以最大限度满足和提高人们审美需要为主要职责的图案,并不排斥、否认艺术的认识和教育作用。而是以其特有的隐晦、含蓄手法寓教于美,寓教于乐;而且它的审美作用还受到工艺美术品的使用功能、材料特性、工艺技巧、生产成本等的局限和制约。离开了这些因素,图案也就不可能独立存在。它们是一个有机的整体,互为存在的条件。既然图案的主要功能是以审美为主,那么对形式美的刻意追求就成为设计图案的关键。形式美的法则多种多样,都是为了使作品的意境、气氛、风格的和谐统一;反映作者企图传达给使用者某种意念、理想和感情。因此,它更需要象诗人那样,依赖于作者丰富的艺术想象。一、想象,要敢于虚构
