There have been quite a few reports of karyotyping in patients with mental retardation in shelters. These reports indicate that the incidence of karyotypic abnormalities in patients accounts for about 10 to 15% of the total number of patients, in addition, the most common karyotypic abnormalities are Down’s syndrome.
