A study of various options for iron ore from BMC in Liberia has identified the impact of the introduction of closed-circuit grinding circuits on investment and production costs. A series of comparative tests were carried out at the Libburger Institute of Mineral Processing (SGA) on open-circuit and closed-circuit grinding programs, ranging from self-grinding to fine grinding (ball mill). With the same beneficiation target and approximately equal investment costs, closed-circuit grinding programs have high material consumption, yet these costs are significantly offset by a 22% saving on the program.
