对一些人而言，他们并不相信太阳拥有大气，但事实的确如此。针对太阳大气温度变化的奇特现象，科学界一直存在争议。科学家一直希望能将航天器送入太阳的外部日冕层，以更好地了解太阳风和太阳投掷到空间的带电粒子流。经过长达4年多的准备，美国国家航空航天局确定，将于2018年7月31日，首次将航天器送入太阳的上方大气层，在长达20天的时间里，航天器将实现有史以来与太阳最亲密的接触。
