荀子突破了孔孟以来的文质传统,在文艺的众多因素中,率先发现了文艺中的情感因素并加以系统论述,将对文质观的探讨由伦理道德的内容上升到情感因素,使文学艺术的研究回归其本身,儒家的文质观乃至整个艺术研究活动也由此开始了情感论的转向。他提出的“情文俱尽”的文艺标准和“称情而立文”的文艺创制原则,为中国诗学的情感论传统奠定了基础。
Xunzi broke through the traditional literary tradition since Confucius and Mencius.
