何谓设计,图案设计界有自己的解说、定义,但众说纷纭。有的说:设计,乃是一种思想的焕发,是创造人类生活的新形式;有的说:设计就是设计,工艺必须姓“工”而与美术不相干等等。其实主张“工艺必须姓工”的设计家往往正是以己之长(设计思想、技术与语言)在当今宣传画创作上获得成功的。无外乎论者都从各自的主场出发阐释设计与美术的不同性罢了。我认为艾中信先生对设计的概括表述是比较符合实际的。诚然他是从美术这门艺术学科总体构架出发谈设计,没有谈及日用品设计的功能、实用与审美结合等问题,但精辟而辩证科学地对设计的内涵与外延作了简明扼要的剖析。这对我们全面、深入地研究图案设计学,并从中国文化的历史长河中,如何客观地看待设计与工艺美术,设计与科技
