The formation of chips and the interrelationship between cutting forces and cutting speeds are greatly influenced by the material of the workpieces and their heat treatment conditions. In addition to the thermal and mechanical properties of the material, the microstructure and chemical composition of the material determine whether segmented cutting is used during high-speed machining.
