Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of peer education intervention in improving the sub-health status of left-behind middle school students in the reservoir area and provide reference for the relevant departments to formulate an intervention plan. Methods A multistage cluster random sampling method was used to select 3 middle schools in a township in Chongqing as a survey point. A total of 1 078 left-behind middle school students were included in the study. They were randomly divided into companion education group, traditional health education group and control group Group, before and after intervention were used “adolescent sub-health multi-dimensional assessment questionnaire ” for evaluation. Results Before intervention, there was no significant difference in the detection rate of body, mind, body and mind sub-health status between the peer education group, control group and health education group (all P> 0.05); after the intervention, physical, psychological, > Peer education group> Health education group, in which there was significant difference between somatic and physical and psychological sub-health status (P <0.05). Compared with before and after intervention, the detection rate of somatic, psychological and physical and psychological sub-health status in peer education group decreased (P> 0.05), and the detection rate of sub-health status in both health education group and control group increased. The differences of health status were statistically significant (P <0.05). Conclusions Peer education intervention has some effect on the improvement of sub-health status. Under the background of the lack of health education teachers in the reservoir area, it may be a desirable supplementary education mode.
