1. Before long, many diners stayed open around the clock. In other words, people were able to eat in a diner at any time.
2.…He says Lieberman’s charisma is key. “Food TV isn’t about food anymore,” says Flay. “It’s about your personality and finding a way to keep people’s eyeballs on your show.” (2007全国Ⅱ.A篇)
What does the word “charisma” underlined in the text refer to?
A. A natural ability to attract others
B. A way to show one’s achievement
C. Lieberman’s after-class interest
D. Lieberman’s fine cooking skill
析:“It’s about your personality…” 答案为A。
例:…The house looked quite normal outside, but inside it was very exotic with fascinating objects on display.(2006 江西.B篇)
Which of the definitions is closest in meaning to the word “exotic”?A. Messy and untidy. B. Rich and expensive.
C. Comfortable and calming. D. Foreign and unusual.
例:…Indeed, any serious student of antique should spend as much time as possible visiting palaces, stately homes and museums to see some of the finest examples of clocks from the past.
The underlined phrase “stately homes” in Paragraph 4 means ____.
A. state-owned houses
B. houses in very good condition
C. grand houses opened to the public
D. houses where statesmen meet regularly
例:…The low test score, they think, will make it impossible for them to get into a good college. And without a degree from a prestigious university, they fear that many of life’s doors will remain forever closed.(2007江西卷.C篇)
“A prestigious university” is most probably ____.
A. a famous universityB. a technical university
C. a traditional universityD. an expensive university
More American people take their troubles with them on holiday, according to a new survey. Although 40 percent said the main reason for going away is to escape from work, almost all said they worry more than they do at home. Only four in every 100 said they are happy and free of care. (2005安徽.A篇)
The underlined word“survey” in the first paragraph most probably means ____.
A. research B. review C. exhibitionD. examination
例: …The plants are about one metre apart. The plant is often pruned so that it remains only 60 to 90 centimetres high. Pruning is important because it encourages the growth of tender shoots, of young leaves. It is from these shoots that the best tea is got. (2005江西.D篇)
In the first paragraph, the word “pruning” means ____.
A. regular cutting of the plants
B. frequent watering
C. regular use of chemicals
D. growing the plants high in the mountain
答案为A。
He laughed and shrugged, “I have no choice,” he said, “I must admit it’s unavoidable.”
