Researchers at the Battle Northwest Laboratory have proposed a group-funded study to explore the control of diamond-like carbon coating deposition. The process provides a protective coating for fiber and high-energy laser mirrors and provides a wear-resistant layer to the lens. At present, the sedimentation method has different results and produces non-uniform coating characteristics.
