The EU 6 emission regulations promulgated in late 2011 have clarified the demand framework for the coming years. The particle number limit of 6.0 × 10 ~ (11) km ~ (-1) is a real challenge for direct injection gasoline engines. Through the visualization of single-cylinder engines, the causal relationship of particle formation is discussed, which can provide systematic requirements and functional definitions for reducing particle emissions. Reproducibility studies conducted on a Euro 5 gasoline engine successfully reduced the original emissions of the engine, setting the direction for a gasoline engine arranged centrally in the injector to reach the Euro 6 particle limit.
