在2006年武警总部评选出的第九届“中国武警十大忠诚卫士”当中,席栓柱的名字再一次引起人们的关注。那还得从三年前说起。2004年,中国派武警赴伊拉克跟随孙必干一行执行警卫任务和随卫任务,是我国外交史上的第一次,也是武警部队有史以来的第一次。时任武警北京总队五支队副支队长的席栓柱中校带领五名中国武警官兵奔赴战火纷飞的伊拉克,首次为中国驻伊使馆复馆小组外交人员提供警卫。在巴格达的四百多个日日夜夜里,他和战友圆满完成了二百多次外交活动的随行警卫任务,协助孙必干大使两次成功解救我国被挟持的十五名人质,无一人伤亡,创造了中国武警警卫史上的一大奇迹。
