根据须家河组的岩性岩相特征和在盆地内的分布情况,笔者认为四川盆地须家河组的沉积环境既不是陆相的湖泊环境,也不是滨湖的三角洲环境,而是由早期的潮坪泻湖和滨海三角洲环境逐渐变为陆相的河流环境。以川东达县地区为例,须家河组四、五、六、七段为蛇曲河流环境。它包括河床滞留沉积、边滩沉积、堤岸沉积、决口扇沉积以及洪泛平原上的漫滩湖泊和漫滩沼泽沉积。这种河流环境既有别于三角洲的分流河道环境,也不同于湖泊——河流环境。主要煤层形成于蛇曲河流洪泛平原上的小型泥炭沼泽中。须家河组一、二、三段
