Researchers of Pennsylvania health policy extracted data of 176 Chinese overweight teenagers through investigation. They found that 69% of these teenagers underestimated their body weights. And 72% mother of the overweight teenagers judged their children to be normal weight or underweight.
Yao Nengliang， a health policy and management expert said “A number of overweight teenagers in China underestimate their weight， and are unlikely to change their dietary structures and exercise patterns. However， if not， they are probably to become extremely obese and will face lots of health problems， just like what we often see now in America.”
Wang Longde， former Deputy Minister of Health， President of China Preventive Medicine Association believes that children obesity is mainly caused by unhealthy lifestyles. “And one of the major reasons is drinking excessive sugary soft drinks. Now many countries have legislated against this， and China can learn from them.”
美国宾夕法尼亚州卫生政策研究人员曾经从调查中抽取176名中国超重青少年的数据，经研究发现，其中69%的青少年低估了自己的体重。此外，有72%的母亲对自己体重超重的孩子给出了体重正常或不足的评判。
美国卫生政策与管理学专家姚能良（音）说：“中国许多超重青少年都低估了自己的体重，不大可能采取措施改善膳食和锻炼模式。如果不改变，他们很可能会变得极为肥胖，将来会面临许多健康问题——就像我们在美国经常看到的情况一样。”
原卫生部副部长、中华预防医学会会长王陇德认为，儿童肥胖的主要原因是不良生活方式造成的，“其中一个主要原因就是饮用含糖软饮料，这对造成儿童的肥胖是非常重要的。现在许多国家要对此提出一些立法的限制，中国也应该效仿。”
It is much harder to lose weight for obese children than obese adults， because children obesity is not just the increase of adipocyte as the adults do， but the increase in both adipocyte in number and size.
Wang said that， nowadays most of the common diseases， including infectious and chronic diseases are to some extent related with lifestyle. The reason for the rising of children obesity rate is mainly improper diet： no breakfast but excessive dinner， being in favor of high-calorie and high-fat fast food and high-sugar drinks like Coke， preferring dessert and chocolate， long TV time.
“Among the children aged 0 to 6 years old in the city of China， the rate of overweight and obese has been up to 8%. The rate for teenagers aged 7 to 17 years old has even reached to 21%. If the trend of becoming overweight and obesity are not be curbed， it would be a disaster for us.”
儿童肥胖减肥比成年人要困难，因为儿童肥胖不单像成年人那样仅仅是脂肪细胞的体积增大，而儿童肥胖是脂肪细胞的个数和体积同时增多和增大，所以解决起来更困难。
王陇德提醒说，现在基本上绝大部分的常见疾病，包括传染病和慢性病，都和生活方式相关。造成儿童肥胖比例上升的主要原因是饮食不当：有人爱睡懒觉不习惯吃早餐，晚餐过量；喜欢吃高热量、高脂肪的快餐，喜欢喝可乐等饮料；习惯吃甜点心、巧克力；长时间看电视等。
“中国城市现在0岁-6岁的儿童，超重加肥胖已经达到8%，7岁-17岁的青少年超重加肥胖已经达到了21%。如果不及早注意、做出改变的话，这将是我们民族的灾难。”
