There are currently 20 salt-producing provinces in Vietnam. The total area of Yantian is about 18,000 hectares. About a quarter of them are distributed in 6 provinces in the north. The annual output is about ZO million, and the remaining four-thirds are concentrated in 16 provinces in the south. The annual output is about 400,000 tons. The salt production in Vietnam was not stable in production and sales in recent years. The total production in 1997 was only 560,000 tons, which was ZO% lower than that in 1996. Demand for salt continues to increase in Vietnam, for industrial use
