Since the first package of instant noodles was introduced in Japan in 1958, after 40 years of development, instant noodles have become the second largest food after bread. China started to produce instant noodles since the 1970s and is currently the country with the largest annual output of instant noodles. In 1995 it had reached 17.3 billion packs. Due to the large population and the huge market, instant noodle development is fast, and instant noodles such as “Master Kong”, “Unified”, and “Battalion” produced by joint ventures are developing rapidly. They are among the best in terms of output, sales, and market share. In the past two years, a “new” brand of “Dai Bian Ding” instant noodles has quickly become one of the best-selling brands. According to sales statistics of 1,221 chain stores across the country in February 1998, this brand has
