The spatial phase shift induced by the second harmonic in aperiodic aperiodic PPLN is studied. The results show that it can be used to compensate any spatial phase distortion of the incident fundamental wave. Applying this to the quality improvement of laterally distorted semiconductor laser beams, a harmonic output with a diffraction-limited beam quality with a conversion efficiency close to the conventional PPLN can be obtained
