The Pekam Library was designed to receive the British Architectural Stirling Prize, the Royal Institute of Architectural Stirling Prize, the BCIA Award, the Public Trust Award, and the AIA British Outstanding Design Award in November 2000. The project calls for the construction of a distinctive building that brings visibility to the area and inspires the pride of the locals. William Alsop designed a very unique building to meet the above requirements. The design issues have been radically resolved and the entire building has become a truly delightful and proud workplace - the archives and the meeting place. The main reading room is designed in a suspended plane, below can be used as a public area. The reading room’s small room includes a conference room and a separate bookshelf, and below is the workstation. Design requirements in the package
