The word “microcosm” has been accompanied by my thinking as I studied the Hopi Indian dance. This is not surprising given the apparent dependence of the Hopi dances on Hopi’s overall culture. Hopi dance culture is an ideal model for this thesis theme. In this article I will give an example of the Hopi dance culture model and examine the possibility of extending the theoretical rationale generated by this model to other dance cultures. I would like to emphasize the term “dance culture”. Through this term, I am referring to the overall form of a dance and not just the dance performance. For dance culture, I not only refer to the obvious aspects of dance and its causes, but also to the implied aspects.
