In the late 19th and early 20th century, the industrial revolution started in the United Kingdom was also a baptism of American society. Large-scale mechanized production replaced manual workshops. Changes in mode of production and lifestyle impacted people’s inherent values. Some people were unable to adapt to industrialization The changes that come from the mind are distorted. They are materially unsuccessful, unhappy in their lives, abnormal in their behavior, and free from the outside world. As a byproduct of industrialization, this social phenomenon and these “eccentric people” are recorded in many of their literary works by many writers. Sherwood Anderson’s short story collection “The Mortal Widow” is one of the classic works.
