相信有不少人都曾被这条新闻给刷屏了——姚明因为帮助NBA扩大在中国的知名度，在4月4日正式入选2016年奈史密斯篮球名人堂，并成为首次荣获此殊荣的中国人。
2002年以状元秀身份加盟休斯顿火箭的姚明是一名身高7英尺6英寸（约合2.28米）的中锋，他凭借出色的数据，成为入围NBA名人堂的较早一批国际球员之一。姚明的入选对他本人、中国乃至亚洲篮球来说意义深远——他成为史上首位以球员身份进入名人堂的中国人。早在2012年姚明就有机会入选名人堂，当时以“贡献者”身份提名入选，但当即遭到他婉言谢绝。而现在，姚明终于如愿以偿以球员身份进入名人堂。
获得如此殊荣，姚明在外媒的报道中是这样说的：
“I am overwhelmed by this special favor， because the Hall of Fame is the place that so many great players whom I respect have been inducted into，” he said.
“I am honored to get involved in basketball， a great sport that so many people love， care and watch. Thanks to tremendous support and sound suggestions from the fans， I can keep a good mentality and hopefully I will continue to make my contribution to the sport，” he added.
