上面这些照片,大概很多老读者都不陌生。1964年1月12日,正当巴拿马人民掀起全国性反美风暴之际,毛泽东主席对《人民日报》记者发表谈话:目前巴拿马人民正在英勇地进行的反对美国侵略、维护国家主权的斗争,是伟大的爱国斗争。中国人民坚决站在巴拿马人民的一边,完全支持他们反对美国侵略者,要求收回巴拿马运河区主权的正义行动。……在北京和全国各地,立即爆发了支持巴拿马人民斗争、反对美国侵略的示威游行。新华社报道:全国1600万人示威反对美国侵略巴拿马。也许,《世界知识》的很多读者都参加或亲眼目睹了这些活动。《世界知识》也在当年第2期(1月25日出版)及时报道了巴拿马人民反美风暴的消息……从此以后,与巴拿马和巴拿马运河有关的一切消息,都会引起中国人民的关注。新世纪到来之前,巴拿马运河终于回到了巴拿马人的手中。
These photos above, probably many old readers are familiar. On January 12, 1964, just as the Panamanian people set off a nationwide anti-American storm, Chairman Mao Zedong made a statement to the reporter of People’s Daily: At present, the people of Panama are bravely engaged in the struggle against the U.S. aggression and the sovereignty of the country. They are great Patriotic struggle. The Chinese people are firmly standing on the side of the Panamanian people and fully support their just actions of opposing the U.S. aggressors and demanding that they withdraw their sovereignty over the canal area of Panama. ... In Beijing and throughout the country, demonstrations immediately in support of the people of Panama and against the U.S. aggression broke out immediately. Xinhua News Agency reports: 16 million demonstrators in the country oppose the invasion of Panama by the United States. Perhaps many readers of “world knowledge” have attended or witnessed these activities. World Knowledge was also published in the second issue of the year (January 25) and timely reports of the anti-American storms in the Panamanian people. From then on, all the news related to Panama and the Panama Canal will arouse the concern of the Chinese people. Before the advent of the new century, the Panama Canal finally returned to the Panamanian hands.
