明清之际,为了传教的需要,入华耶稣会士将西方的科学技术带到中国,形成了“西学东渐”。与此同时,他们又以各种方式向欧洲介绍中国的历史地理、政治制度、哲学思想、社会生活、文学艺术等等,形成了“中学西传”。其中,法国耶稣会士龚当信对清代邸报的介绍值得我们关注。龚当信在中国生活了近30年,对中国的情况相当熟悉。雍正初年,他阅读了大量邸报,并做了摘录和翻译。在寄往欧洲的3封信中,他对邸报做了详细介绍和高度评价。他这3封信收入了《耶稣会士书简集》,在欧洲产生了一定影响,增加了欧洲人对中国社会的了解。18世纪法国出版的杜赫德的《中华帝国全志》和魁奈的《中华帝国的专制制度》都利用了他的信件,评论了中国邸报。
On the occasion of the Ming and Qing dynasties, in order to meet the needs of missionary work, the Jesuits in China brought western science and technology to China and formed the “Eastward Development of Western Learning.” At the same time, they introduced China’s historical geography, political system, philosophy, social life, literature and art, etc. to Europe in various ways and formed “West High School”. Among them, the French Jesuit Gong Dangxin on the Qing Dynasty Di newspaper presentation deserves our attention. Gong Dangxin has lived in China for nearly 30 years and is very familiar with the situation in China. In the early years of Yongzheng, he read a large number of newspapers and made excerpts and translations. In the three letters sent to Europe, he made a detailed introduction and highly praised the Di newspaper. His 3 letters, which were collected in the “Book of Janes of the Jesuits,” have had an impact in Europe and have increased European understanding of Chinese society. Du Hed’s 18th-century French General Chronicles of Imperial China and Quesnay’s “autocratic rule of the Chinese imperialism” all took advantage of his letters and commented on the Di Bao of China.
