在西方理论界,反理论之声从来就没有中断过,伊格尔顿的近作《理论之后》是对这种反理论的一个回应,其目的不是宣判理论的死亡,而是通过对文化理论的深刻反思探询当前文化理论陷入困境的原因,并试图超越后现代主义的幻象为文化理论寻找出路。他认为文化理论必须重新进入现实,必须对人类的道德、价值、真理等重大问题进行重新思考,并要对当代资本主义超出伦理限制的盲目发展和过度消费主义进行批判。《理论之后》对我们的启示是:中国当代的文化理论和美学理论应该充分关注中国的现实,尤其要关注在社会急剧转型中处于边缘地位、社会底层和少数民族族群人们的文化生活、价值转变、情感需求和文化尊严,为边缘和弱势群体及其文化的存在和发展争取合法性和话语权。
