In order to understand the residents’ perception of the health risks of hot weather in the tropical island region, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 1,087 residents over the age of 18 in Haikou City, Ding’an County and Changjiang County of Hainan Province. The results showed that the average score of health risk perception of hot weather in the surveyed subjects was (3.02 ± 0.93) points, and it was considered that high temperature weather had little harm to one’s own health, while small, normal, large and large people accounted for 5.89%, 20.15% and 44.43 %, 25.30% and 4.23% respectively. Residents with a high degree of perceived risk of high temperature health accounted for 29.53%, and those with higher risk perception were more likely to take protective measures (OR = 9.07, 95% CI: 4.73-17.42). Suggesting that the respondents have a low awareness of high-temperature risk, we should strengthen risk communication and raise awareness of residents’ health risks in hot weather.
