China’s Desalination of the Future Ocean World: The “Special Investigation and Evaluation of China’s Offshore and Oceanic Oceans” (referred to as the “908 Special Project”) first identified the potential of China’s offshore seawater resources and their development and utilization. The results show that nearly 90% of China’s cities have different degrees of water shortage. How do you think about the shortage of water resources? Li Linmei: Water scarcity is a global problem. The world’s population grows by an average of 80 million annually, with a consequent increase of 64 billion cubic meters of freshwater resources. Climate change has led to frequent droughts and floods and worsening water supply. According to statistics, by 2025, 3.5 billion people in the world will live in water-scarce countries or regions, and 1.8 billion people live in extreme poverty
