Objectives To study the ef-fects of AT1 antagonist on MMP2, MMP9 expressionand collagen remodeling in left ventricle of rabbit un-dergoing chronic pressure overload. Methods 30rabbits were randomly divided into 3 groups ( n = 10,each group), including sham operation group, ab-dominal aorta banded group(banded group), abdomi-nal aorta banded + valsartan group (valsartan group).Twelve weeks after operation, hemodynamic parame-ters were acquired, then collagen volume fraction(CVF) and MMP2, MMP9 expression of left ventriclewere measured by using VG and immunohistochemicalstain. Results Compared with sham operationgroup, both MMP2 and MMP9 expression were en-hanced in banded group; meanwhile, LVW/BW,LVEDP and CVF increased significantly. Comparedwith banded group, both MMP2 and MMP9 expressionwere weakened in valarstan group; simultaneously,LVW/BW, LVEDP and CVF decreased significantly.Conclusions Expression of MMP2 and MMP9 wasenhanced in left ventricle of rabbit undergoing chronicpressure overload, which may be associated with col-lagen proliferation, ventricule remodeling and impairedheart function; Valsartan could inhibit collagen pro-liferation, prevent ventricule remodeling and preserveheart function by inhibiting abnormal expression ofMMP2 and MMP9.
