After the first ship, Beihai Petroleum, arrived in the UK 20 years later, Scotland hosted the biannual European Conference and Exhibition on Offshore Oil. More than 20,000 oil industry representatives from 70 countries will debate on the supply of offshore oil and gas in Europe over the next 25 years to discuss ways to further reduce costs in the face of weak oil and gas prices. At present, the price of Brent crude oil in the North Sea is only US$16 per barrel, compared with an average of US$34 in 1981 (currently US$61). The European offshore oil and gas industry has achieved remarkable success in reducing costs, but it still faces severe challenges: oil prices will continue to decline in the foreseeable future this year, North Sea oil fields will become increasingly old, discoveries of new economically recoverable reserves will become increasingly difficult, and international investment Competition has become more intense.
